Glaucous Gull 'barrovianus'-type Gulls
Two types of Glaucous Gull are seen in Hokkaido etc.
A very big type and a very small type.
I think the larger ones are pallidissimus, and the smaller ones are barrovianus.
It is feel that 'barrovianus'-type GG is obviously different even if two sexual factions of normal-type GG are considered.
Normal-type Glaucous Gull with a 1st winter Slaty-backed Gull.
This photograph was taken by me in the Mukawa fishing port on the Pacific Ocean side of Hokkaido in November, 2004.
It looks very large. Note the relation of the size with Slaty-backed Gull.
'barrovianus'-type Glaucous Gull with a 4th winter Slaty-backed Gull.
This photograph was taken by me in the Mukawa river on the Pacific Ocean side of Hokkaido in January, 2005.
This type is very slimness and very cute!
It has the feature that bill is smaller than normal-type Glaucous Gulls, and primaries is longer.
Like a Iceland Gulls but the Iceland Gull is more small.

Normal-type Glaucous Gull. 'barrovianus'-type Glaucous Gull.
Kumlien's Iceland Gull.
The relation of three kinds of sizes is Normal>Barrovianus>Kumlieni.
Adult Vega Gull, 2nd 'barrovianus'-type Gull, 1st Kumlien's Gull.
Those type gulls look like Iceland Gulls but most Iceland Gulls aremore small.
Length of neck, bill and body size are very different though it looks like to barrovianus and kumlieni like this.
Will these be really barrovianus ?
L.h.barrovianus ,which had been attached to the satellite transmitterin Alaska,
was found in Hokkaido in January 2005 and 2003.
As for gull in 2005, the photograph was taken from Wakkanai.
It is thought that the possibility of these gulls is barrovianus is from Alaska.
These gulls are also introduced to this page by Japanese Gull-site.
